So we went to the nascar race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway last night. It was their first night race. I went in with low expectations, in fact I just wanted to go for the life experience. At first I thought that I might have made a mistake when I showed up to find all of the people pre-gaming it in the parking lot that was bigger than anything i had ever seen. I'm thinking "Come on y'all you have to pre-game it at an event where you can bring in your own booze? Really?" Hmmmm. How many drunk people can you have in one place without a bunch of fights? It turns out you can have a lot. It was great. The people were friendly (although it might just have been the buzz).
What I really loved is that there was an invocation and everyone stood to sing the national anthem as there was a fly by. People cheered for and prayed for the armed services. Wow. I found a place where it is still acceptable to love God and your country. I love it. Since the new administration I thought feelings like that were outlawed, but it turns out that they have just been secretly corralled into the races.lol.
The cars were ridiculously loud. It was insane! It sounded like a billion swarming bees coming at you. We took ear plugs and I put them in pretty quickly. Halfway through I started checking my ear plugs to make sure that they are still in because it was sooo loud. It is so funny to see people trying to talk to each other with ear plugs in.It was like redneck sign language.lol.
I didn't go in as a fan of a certain racer, but I soon learned that everyone else had. Their is no middle ground there. You either love or hate a driver, and you make sure that everyone knows how you feel be it through your clothes, your rants and catcalls, or your tattoos. These fans are loyal. I just started watching the race and found that I became a fan of Dale Jr. Not only is the boy good looking, and ambitious, but he had some pretty sweet moves on the circuit. What is not to like. Plus he is sponsored by the National Guard and that is pretty cool too. I think that I liked it so much in person because of how different it is from the televised races. I get to see the whole race, every part and every car at the same time. I pick what I am interested in, and I am a little of a control freak. So at this point I will consider myself a race fan, and in particular a Dale Jr. fan. So there I have admitted it. What is next?
